Don’t we all love a good mystery thriller? On July 13, Netflix dropped a new Japanese series titled Burn the House Down, and it’s a show that’ll have you constantly on the edge of your seat and eager to know what happens next.

Adapted from the popular Japanese manga series of the same name by Moyashi Fujisawa comes a show about a young woman seeking revenge. Yuichiro Hirakawa and Koji Shintoku directed the series from scripts written by Arisa Kaneko.

Thirteen years ago, Anzu Murata watched as her childhood home went up in flames, and her mom took the blame. Now in the present, Anzu refuses to let what happened many years ago go. Convinced her mother had nothing to do with the tragic fire and was wrongfully accused, Anzu goes undercover to work as a housekeeper for her stepmother. Anzu believes her stepmother had something to do with the fire, but she needs evidence to prove she’s the culprit.

Burn the House Down is full of many twists and turns, and it’ll keep you guessing until the very end. But who stars in the mystery thriller? Who plays Anzu? Find out right below.

Stunning Japanese actress Mei Nagano plays the protagonist, Anzu Murata. You might recognize her from her previous roles in other Japanese series such as Platonic, Love That Make You Cry, Voice Love, We Did It, Half Blue, Police in a Pod and Riding A Unicorn.

She also had roles in the Japanese movies  My Love Story!,  Daytime Shooting Star, Rurouni Kenshin Part I: Origins, Hell’s Garden, And So the Baton Is Passed and Maternal Instinct. You can find her on Instagram at the handle @mei_nagano0924official.

Well-known Japanese actress Kyôka Suzuki portrays the role of Makiko Mitarai. Makiko is Anzu’s suspicious stepmother. She was once friends with Anzu’s mother, but after Anzu’s father and mother got a divorce after the fire, Makiko ends up marrying Anzu’s father. Now, she’s Anzu’s new boss.

Suzuki has had previous roles in the Japanese shows Afurika no yoru, Netsuretsu teki chuuka hanten, Say Hello to Black Jack, Shinsengumi!, Risô no musuko and Ferris Wheel at Night. Netflix has been releasing tons of great Korean content throughout 2023 that one might think Burn the House Down is a new Korean drama. However, this is not true. As mentioned above, the mystery thriller is a Japanese series.
