• When Millicent Simmonds was 12 months old, she lost her hearing ability and became deaf.  So, her family learned American Sign Language, according to her mother's decision. Millicent's hearing impairment didn’t stop her from pursuing a career in acting. When she was in school, she joined the drama club at Jean Massieu School for the deaf and participated in the Utah Shakespeare Festival.  
• She got her first career breakthrough as an actress in a movie which was an adaptation of the novel, Wonderstruck. There, she had to do the role of Rose portraying the character of a deaf girl.  Her drama teacher recommended her for this role to director Todd Haynes.
  Her first movie Wonderstruck received huge praise and attention from the critics as it was also screened at the New York Film Festival.
