Joe Louis, also known as the “Brown Bomber,” was an American professional boxer who is known as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time. He was born on May 13, 1914, in Lafayette, Alabama, US, as the seventh of eight children.

Louis’ family moved to Detroit, Michigan, when he was still a child, and it was there that he discovered his passion for boxing. He began training under the tutelage of Julian Black, and quickly made a name for himself as an amateur boxer.

He won the Detroit Golden Gloves tournament in 1934 and went on to become the national amateur champion the following year. In 1934, Louis turned professional and began his rise to boxing stardom. He won his first 27 fights, 23 of them by knockout, and became the heavyweight champion of the world in 1937 when he defeated James J. Braddock. Over the course of his career, Louis defended his title 25 times, a record that stood for decades.
